Coaching Minor
The Coaching Minor is available to undergraduate students in any major aspiring to coach children, adolescents or adults in athletic settings on a volunteer or supplemental basis. The minor will to help potential coaches to develop effective organizational, motivational and teaching strategies to guide successful programs.
The coaching minor meets or exceeds the American Society of Health and Physical Educators, (SHAPE) National Standards for Sport Coaches and will provide CIF coaching education certification. The program emphasizes coaching and administrative theory, psychology, medical and nutritional concerns, risk management, and skill development.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills in a sport coaching setting.
- Utilize sport psychology principles to improve athlete well being and performance.
- Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors in a sport coaching setting.
- Synthesize, critically appraise, and apply knowledge to prevent injury and increase athletic skill and performance.

NOTE: Kinesiology majors cannot declare the coaching minor. The coaching minor can only be declared by non-Kinesiology majors. However, Kinesiology majors can take courses listed in the coaching minor.
